My Old Kentucky Home

There is something to be said about drinking a glass of iced tea on your porch while you hear the birds sing on a glorious weekend morning.  The sun shining on you, your porch, and the newspaper you are reading, while you are resting, and relaxing.  A deep breath... real contentment... about life.  Imagine the giggle of your children playing, free from the negatives of city issues.  Rolling hills, cool crisp mornings... well, we could go on and on.

Located in the heart of Bluegrass Country and one of the original 9 counties when we became a state in 1792, you will sense that there is pride being a Kentuckian here in Bourbon County, with our spirit of sharing and welcoming new residents joining us from around the country.  What is sure to those who focus on what really matters in life is that heaven shines down on Paris and Bourbon County — "the suns shines bright on our old Kentucky home."

Tradition matters and runs deeply in Bourbon County - tradition of friendship, neighborliness, and doing what's right for others.  The horse racing tradition is around us as we are home to massive thousand acre horse farms.  In a way, they "buffer" us from the sprawl of suburbs, and we think that's a good thing.

Charming downtown shops adorn our downtown adjacent to our amazing Courthouse,
and there always seems to be flowers placed at "Big Red's" grave

Secretariat, perhaps the greatest thoroughbred in history and named the "35th Greatest Athlete of the 20th Century" by ESPN, is buried here, on Claiborne Farm.  It is said at the Belmont Stakes in 1973 when he expanded on his lead in the home stretch, a race he would win by a record 31 lengths and in record time, that the patrons wept as they were witnessing true greatness - a "once-in-a-lifetime" phenomenon.

Similarly, you have one life to live.  One place to choose to settle and work.  One place to raise your
children and send them to school.  We are normally modest about such things, but should you choose Bourbon County, the sun will shine on you, too.  Here the sun comes through the sky and upon us, like nowhere else!

Kentucky/Bourbon County and Paris - Where we are:

We enjoy Cincinnati 88 miles north on I-75, and Lexington is just 17 miles, 4-lane all the way.
We truly have the perfect combination of pastoral living with access to large cities.

The Paris Pike and its Importance:

While living in Bourbon County seems like we are far from "the big city" because of our horse farms and their beautiful rolling hillsides, we are actually just 17 miles from Lexington and its amenities, via The Paris Pike - completed in 2003, this $70 million 4-lane incredible roadway connects Paris to I-75 and Lexington.  Check out the photo tour of Paris Pike below!

The Paris Pike's beauty rivals great American roads such as the Smokey Mountain Blue Ridge Parkway, Highway 101 Ventura Highway in California, and Highway 1 through the Florida Keys - all 4 lane, and leisurely all the way!  A daily commute to and from Lexington is easier and traffic free vs. its own suburbs!

Prestigious Lexington Country Club, and its First Tee if you're up for a match,
is on Paris Pike, just 15 minutes from us!

Paris Pike literally connects downtown Paris to downtown Lexington - it turns into Broadway as it enters into Lexington city limits, and then intersects with Main Street, Rupp Arena and the convention center

If You Choose Paris:

  • You will enjoy a lifestyle with a relaxed pace - rolling hills and our huge horse farms - some thousands of acres in size, promote a wonderful buffer against the "strip mall-type growth" that seems to be everywhere.  Strict covenants require home sites outside Paris city limits to have large yards, and this protects the "look and feel" of our landscape.

  • While wages/pay are competitive here vs. most places in the country, the cost of living, from real estate, to taxes, may be the lowest - this means more money in your pocket for more hobbies, or to secure retirement, or your children's college, etc.  Now that's "quality of life!"

  • Life in Paris is unique - it is not like "cookie cutter" suburbs throughout the country.

  • Our downtown area attracts more and more eclectic, unique stores from Arts to Coffee Shops,
and restaurants, while we also have local necessity shopping, including chain restaurants and
    a Starbucks.

  • Upscale shopping is in Lexington, a leisurely, short, wonderful drive on the new Paris Pike.  Modern amenities, including a local municipal FBO for those with their own aircraft, are in abundance, but mixed with the unique charm of our area without the trade-off of having to live in a large city with traffic snarls, crime, and other concerns.
